Met de komst in 2008 is het de zevende keer dat er een honkbalploeg van de Nederlandse Antillen naar Haarlem komt voor deelname aan het internationale invitatietoernooi.

Quadruple champion Cuba (1972, 1974, 1996 & 1998), always brings a very
strong team to the HHW. In the 2004 and 2006 edition of the HHW the Cubans were runner-up, as they were defeated in the final round by the Dutch team. Cuba has won the World Championship 25 times, but surprisingly lost to the USA in the finals of the 2007 edition in Taiwan. They will be very eager to show to the world that they are still the team to beat.
The Cuban National Team has also qualified themselves for the Olympic Games. The 24th HHW will be their last trial of strength before Beijing.

 Netherlands
 
 
The past couple of years the Dutch National Baseball team has proven it belongs at the top of worldwide Baseball. Coach Robert Eenhoorn lead his team to the fourth place during the World Championships of 2005 and 2007.
In 2007 they defeated Cuba in the first round (1-2) and in the
quarterfinals were too strong for host Taiwan (3-6).

 Chinese Taipei
 
 
For many years Chinese Taipei is a very respected competitor at the HHW.
Their excellent baseball, with lots of Asian influences, is great to watch. Chinese Taipei may not be the strongest team, but they compensate that gracefully with their sublime technical skills and speed.
In March 2008, Chinese Taipei will compete in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Chinese Taipei, Germany, Spain, Korea, Australia, South-Africa, Mexico and Canada are still in the running to be qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing. This tournament will decide which three teams will actually get a ticket to Beijing.
